LIF Salon NYC | Navigating what’s next: Delivering legal services in an AI-infused ecosystem

partners

NON-PROFIT PARTNER

OVERVIEW

The Legal Innovation Forum Salon Series looks at how organizations steer through geopolitical shifts, a rewired global economy, and technology that routinely outpaces policy.

For senior legal leadership and their outside counsel, the AI conversation has been more noise than signal. “Would be” or purported guidance is seemingly everywhere, a range of tools is spreading, and the business faces unfocused pressure to adopt these tools or be left behind.

LIF Salons aim to cut through the noise and elevate the conversation. They convene leading thinkers and practitioners to surface the right questions. Here, the point of inquiry is: where is legal technology going and, more importantly, for what purpose? And how should legal leaders respond?

The keynote fireside chat for our inaugural LIF Salon brings together a compelling trio: Ray Brescia, an Albany Law professor and author focused on law, access to justice, and economic change; Sateesh Nori (The Augmented Lawyer on Substack), a legal futurist who researches and writes on AI and legal practice—including measured outcomes in legal aid; and moderator David Rosen, a former banking and fund counsel and a co-founder in legal tech.

**Attendees of this salon will earn 1.5 hours of NYS CLE credit in Ethics.**

PURPOSE

Held under Chatham House Rule, LIF salons offer an intimate forum for innovation-focused leaders to explore new ideas at the intersection of business, risk, and law.

THEMES

Navigating what’s next:
Delivering legal services in an AI-infused ecosystem

What’s different this time and why? The typewriter, email, and comparison tools have all sped things up, but the way many lawyers work is still much the same as it was 20–50 years ago. How is this moment different, and how can AI change the role and impact of lawyers in law, business, and society?

Scale, access, and transfer: Lawyers worry about the potential need for fewer lawyers, yet society and business need legal services more than ever. How can AI expand capacity while democratizing access?

A different lens on AI and legal ethics: We are moving from “not using AI” as brag to red flag. Beyond the trivial of what not to do with AI, what are the bar’s obligations now?  While much of the conversation tends to focus on the risks of using AI, this conversation will cover the practical, legal, and ethical implications of not adopting AI in effective and efficient ways.

STRUCTURE

  • Networking, discussions and dinner at an exclusive venue: Salons will run from 5:30 – 9:30 pm at a highly prestigious location in each city: ambassadorial residences, leading cultural institutions, or private dining rooms at top-tier restaurants.

Tables are strictly limited (5 tables maximum, 6 participants per table) with a thought leader moderating each conversation, guided by pre-set discussion points.

in association with
Approved by The State Bar of Texas for 3:00 CLE hours

OVERVIEW

An Energy Roundtable + Legal Innovation Forum program focused on challenges and opportunities facing the North American energy sector in today’s volatile, risk-on ecosystem

The global energy industry is facing unprecedented risk in an era of geopolitical instability, regulatory uncertainty, supply chain challenges and tariffs impacting cross-border trade. Forward-thinking energy companies – both north and south of the border – are bolstering risk mitigation strategies as they strive for business resilience.

Houston is recognized as the energy capital of the world – not only in the established oil and gas sectors, but also for renewable sources such as wind and solar power – making it the ideal location for this half-day live event.

Through a series of panel discussions, fireside chats, and presentations, we will bring together leading energy companies, law firms and service providers to examine the key drivers and trends in this dynamic sector and shed light on successful strategies for mitigating risk and driving business growth in these uncertain times.

Structure + Audience

  • Half-day event held in Houston on December 3, 2025

  • Market volatility and financial risks: Navigating fluctuations in oil, gas, and electricity prices due to global supply-demand imbalances, and overcoming capital allocation uncertainty
  • Growth in renewable energy: Adapting to the rapid growth of solar, wind, and hydro and the accelerated adoption of electric vehicles as consumer demands evolve

2:052:55 PM: PANEL | CROSS-BORDER RISK + OPPORTUNITIES: WORKING WITH CANADIAN SUPPLIERS TO DRIVE US BUSINESS GROWTH

In association with:

McMillan LLP logo
  • The Canadian impact: What role do Canadian players play in driving business growth for energy companies in the US? How has Trump’s trade affected bilateral energy trades?
  • Canada – an overlooked opportunity: Despite its world class resources and favorable shipping times to buyers in the Americans and Asia, Canada is seen as a contrarian play due to the regulatory hurdles in developing new projects. However, this is changing with initiatives to fast-track projects of national interest. This compliments Canadian producers that have steady cash flow, high yields and significant mid + downstream opportunities.
  • Expanding renewable supply chains: Best practices for capitalizing on US demand for renewable technology, materials, and expertise.
  • Market dynamics: Identifying key energy sectors where Canadian suppliers can meet US demand.
  • Strategic partnerships: Building cross-border alliances to access larger markets, joint infrastructure projects and clean energy programs.

  • Geopolitical instability: How are successful energy companies overcoming rising commodity prices driven by global conflicts and trade tensions?

  • Scenario planning: Conducting geopolitical risk assessments and stress-testing business models against political disruptions.

  • Advising on trade strategy + business risk: Guiding businesses and developing strategies to deal with tariff uncertainty, shifting regulations, and potential legal challenges.

  • Managing demand: A look at how energy producers are planning to meet growing electricity demand, which could more than double by 2030 due to the rise of AI.

  • Diversification as a solution: How meeting increased demand with a mix of energy sources, including renewables and natural gas, could help manage costs and emissions and drive efficiency.

  • Policy and investment: How policymakers and businesses can work together to implement policies that incentivize energy efficiency, encourage diverse energy supply, and help minimize costs.
