CANLIF Law Firm Innovation Report Launch

  • Free to attend
  • Under consideration by the Law Societies of BC & ON

The Canadian Legal Innovation Forum is publishing its second annual report focused on measuring innovation in Canadian law firms.

This survey was prompted by the CANLIF Law Firm Roundtable: How are law firms defining and delivering innovation strategies? held in February 2022 where 10+ law firm leaders shared their experiences and best practices when it comes to law firm innovation strategy and execution.

The report is underpinned by a survey of approximately 20 decision makers from Canada’s leading law firms that shows that COVID propelled the use of technology-driven solutions to the virtual work world (video conferencing, e-signature, document management systems, etc.) and management-driven improvements (virtual data rooms, collaboration tools, etc.) to focus on/improve the client experience as these clients continue to expect more from their law firm relationships.

It focuses on their key innovation challenges, where law firms generate innovation projects, what technology they have invested in and the corresponding ROI, and the practice areas that have benefited most from innovation.

To mark the official launch of the report, we are putting on a webinar which will cover the following:

⇎ An overview of the key findings of the report
⇎ A panel discussion amongst law firm innovation leaders and legal tech providers:
⇎ How can law firms accelerate innovation in a post-pandemic world?
⇎ How are they generating and collecting ideas for innovative projects/products from their clients?
⇎ What key problems are they trying to solve through innovation and why?
⇎ What is the role that technology is playing in supporting these approaches?

Data: Mastering data governance: increasing risks and strategies to address them

  • Free to attend
  • Under consideration by the Law Societies of BC & ON
For lawyers and compliance specialists, managing a rapid increase of the volume of data in organizations is creating increased complexity. Managing this complexity requires interpreting shifting rules around data management and privacy. Implementing robust data governance programs to address these changes. And ensuring these initiatives align with overall organizational strategy. Managing increasing cyber security risks also ranks high on the agenda – particularly when it comes to the risk of breach of both customer and employee data as well data housed with vendors. For the custodians of organizations’ data – lawyers and compliance specialists – having an effective strategy in place to manage these emerging risks is critical. This 60 minute webinar will focus on how organizations (and the groups responsible for their management) are identifying challenges and implementing effective risk mitigation and strategies when it comes to managing data. In the webinar, our speakers will discuss: The dramatic increase in the volume of data organizations need to manage has also created emerging risks. What are the key drivers leading to the increasing volume of data in organizations and how is this affecting organizations’ risk profiles? What role do legal and compliance departments play in organizations responding to these challenges? How are they and their external advisors devising strategies to address them effectively? For an effective data governance strategy to work, having the right people, processes and technology in place is key. What kinds of solutions from third parties are available to organizations for their data governance strategies? And what are best practices in terms of partnering effectively with them to deliver results? Responding to data breaches. How to proactively address the potential for data breaches and manage your organization’s response if they happen.
